A kitchen fire left an Algonquin apartment uninhabitable Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Battalion Chief John Greene said the district was called to the 100 block of South Main Street for a reported fire about
12:20 p.m. Wednesday.

A fire had begun in a second-floor apartment, he said. No one was home at the time and there were no injuries, he said.

The fire started in the kitchen, but a cause has not been determined, he said.

First responders didn’t see any pets in the apartment, he said.

A damage estimate wasn’t yet available.
